Maternity leave - health & safety of pregnant workers

 

 

 

 

What's it about?: The Commission proposed extending minimum leave from 14 to 18 weeks. The parliamentary committee last term favoured an extension to 20 weeks, and 2 weeks of compulsory paternity leave. However, no vote took place in the full Parliament. The issue now returns to the committee in the new parliament

Late payments Directive

 

 

What's it about?: The proposal to revise the current directive says that public authorities must pay within 30 days. Afterwards they will have to pay interest and face additional compensation charges.

Food information to consumers

 

What's it about?: The Commission has proposed providing clearer information on contents of salt, sugar or fat and mandatory nutrition labelling. Food sold in restaurants and canteens should contain information on all allergic ingredients (as is already the case for pre-packed food); labelling of the country of origin or place of provenance of food.

Pharmacology package of legislation

 

What's it about?: Amending existing rules on reporting Adverse Drug Reactions - pharmacovigilance.  Sets out the role of Member State authorities, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare professionals, also on information to patients using new drugs.  Two pieces of legislation being amended: a regulation governing the authorisation of medicines at EU level; and a directive on the mutual recognition of drugs authorised in other Member States.
