Earlier this year Gordon Lishman celebrated his 33rd year with Age Concern. Here he talks about how the sector he knows and loves has changed over the years and in particular how the demographics of ageing has brought so many of Age Concern's central issues to the top of the agenda at home and throughout the EU.
This week sees the NCVO Annual Conference in London (21 February) on the theme of leadership and connecting communities. Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of the NCVO looks back on the past thirteen years of his involvement with the NCVO to see how the voluntary sector has changed and what particular EU influences have affected its development.
The EU reaches 50 this year. 2007 is also an anniversary year for many other organisations. The Industry and Parliament Trust is 30. The years 1977 - 2007 have seen dramatic changes in the UK's economy and many of these are reflected in the mix of businesses in IPT’s membership, as well as the various Fellowship schemes in which MPs and MEPs can participate.
