John was born and brought up in Edinburgh. He has returned there after studies in St Andrews, Glasgow and Siena and eight years working in Brussels.
He worked for 5 years in Scotland Europa, the Scottish presence in the EU, and The European Policy Centre before that - at one point as the assistant to one of Jean Monnet's original colleagues from the birth of the Coal and Steel Authority/EEC.
He now runs the small "antenna" office of the European Parliament in Scotland along with Cécilia and Grace, when not chasing after two Scottish-Colombian children.
