The Week Ahead 27-31 August 2007


MEPs return from summer recess on Monday 27 August (not a Bank Holiday in Brussels). Some of the parliamentary committees meet on Monday but for the rest of the week, MEPs will convene in their political groups to prepare voting positions for the next plenary session in Strasbourg from 3-6 September.


Among the issues being discussed in committee on Monday:

  • Public Hearing on human rights in Jordan and Azerbaijan in Human Rights Sub-Committee;
  • Sir Robert Scott, chair of Selection Panel for 2011 European Capital of Culture - Culture Cttee.

 

Among the reports currently scheduled for discussion in Strasbourg from 3-6 September:

  • 1st reading directive on acquisition of weapons and control of firearms
  • 1st reading directive regulating inland transport of dangerous goods
  • Intellectual property- TRIPs protocol
  • Reforms in the dairy sector
  • EU strategy on alcohol-related harm
