The Week Ahead, 2-6 July 2007

From 2-5 July, MEPs will meet in their political groups to prepare voting positions ahead of the following week's plenary session of parliament. Highlights of the session week (9-12 July) in Strasbourg are likely to include:-

  • Portuguese PM launches Portuguese EU Presidency;
  • Inter-governmental conference on new EU treaty;
  • Postal services liberalisation - 1st reading;
  • Diana Wallis MEP (Lib Dem, Yorks & Humber) on Rome II, 3rd reading;
  • Financial services White Paper;
  • Maritime strategy.

 

Portuguese Presidency of the EU

Portugal takes over the Presidency of the EU from July 1st, 2007 until December 31st. The Presidency website is ready to launch at http://www.eu2007.pt/UE/aEN/

 

European Parliament Audio Book

The European Parliament AudioBook is a monthly half-hour broadcast which covers the wide range of issues being debated by Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg at its monthly plenary sessions. The programmes are part of the European Parliament's drive to help UK citizens appreciate the vast range of topics discussed and decided upon by the institution which impact on their everyday lives.

Annual Work Programme for Grants / European Parliament - DG Information

Call for Proposals 2008

The Call for Proposals is advertised on the European Parliament's main website - please follow this link: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/tenders/grants.htm


Themes for 2008:

(1) Co-financing informative and awareness-raising Television programmes with the central theme of the 50th anniversary of the European Parliamentary Assembly.

(2) Support to public debates and conferences whose main theme will be either:

    • The 50th anniversary of the European Parliamentary Assembly and the role and functioning of the European Parliament, and/or
    • Projects which enhance understanding of our cultural diversity, which increase awareness of different cultures and which promote dialogue, with the objective of strengthening a European identity/citizenship which respects and celebrates this diversity.
(3) Support to large-scale events, including fairs and exhibitions with either:
    • The specific aim of providing information about the role, processes and functioning of the European Parliament, and/or
    • Which encompass and promote the theme of Intercultural Dialogue.

(4) Co-financing innovative websites and other internet-based initiatives aimed at generating a European public political space.


Indicative time schedule:

  • A call for proposals is published on the internet site of the European Parliament providing full details of the type of projects, per theme, which may be considered for the award of a grant by DG Information, and details of the criteria on which the proposals received will be evaluated. The call for proposals sets out the detailed arrangements for submission of proposals and the application form to be used by interested parties wishing to apply for a grant. Published in June 2007. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 1 October 2007.
  • Proposals received by the closing date will be evaluated by an evaluation committee, according to the criteria published. Those proposals deemed most worthy will be selected for the award of a grant. Mid/end November 2007.
  • All unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the reasons for the rejection of their proposal and successful applicants will be offered a grant agreement for signature. December 2007.
