The Week Ahead in the European Parliament

8-12 January 2007

 

MEPs return to Brussels on 9 January to meet in their political groups to prepare voting positions ahead of the next plenary session of Parliament in Strasbourg.

The highlights of the session from 16-19 January include:-

  • elections of President of the European Parliament and Vice-Presidents ;
  • Elections of committee chairs;
  • Railways package - 2nd reading (freight liberalisation: training of train crews, passenger compensation) ;
  • Road safety action programme - mid-term review ;

 This will be the first European Parliament with the 35 new Romanian MEPs and 18 Bulgarian MEPs. It will also be the first session with Irish as an official working language.
