MEPs meet in their political groups in Brussels, 8-11 May, to coordinate voting positions before the next plenary meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, 15-18 May.

Europe Day
On 9 May 1950 the first move was made towards the creation of what is now known as the European Union. In Paris that day, against the background of the threat of a Third World War engulfing the whole of Europe, the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman read to the international press a declaration calling France, Germany and other European countries to pool together their coal and steel production as "the first concrete foundation of a European federation". That is why during the Milan Summit of EU leaders in 1985 it was decided to celebrate 9 May as "Europe Day".

European Parliament Open Day - Open Doors, 6 May
The European Parliament in Brussels will open its doors to the public on Saturday, 6 May 2006, from 10am until 6pm - read more.
Future of Europe
Members of the EU's national Parliaments and MEPs will meet at the European Parliament in Brussels to discuss the future of Europe on 8-9 May 2006. This conference will give citizens' national and European representatives an opportunity to discuss the key issues of concern to them. Among the representatives from the UK House of Commons and House of Lords are: Jimmy Hood MP, John Denham MP, David Heathcoat-Amory MP, and Lord Hannay. Read more.
