Motor Insurance Directive Agreement was reached at 2nd reading between the European Parliament and Council. This directive (2005/14/EC) has now been approved and was published in the Official Journal on 11 June 2005 : Implementation in the UK will be overseen by the Financial Services Authority. On 24 May 2007, the FSA published the fifth Motor Insurance Directive Instrument 2007, which came into effect on 11 June 2007, thus implementing the Directive 2005/14/EC. In Spring 2006 the European Commision held a public consultation on the fourth motor insurance directive (2000/26/EC). It included in the consultation questions on the insurance of trailers which had been raised by the European Parliament during discussions on the fifth directive.
