MEPs support better welfare for chickens The European Parliament is only consulted on legislation in the field of agriculture. The Council of Ministers has the final say on the text of this Directive. This is pending. The German Presidency produced a compromise document in April 2007 and this gained political agreement at Agriculture Council on May 7. The Directive will now go to a future Agriculture Council meeting for formal adoption before being printed in the Official Journal. The Directive will enter into force on 30 June 2010.
