European Parliament as a propaganda machine

• €6m was set aside in the 2006 EU budget for 'promoting the EU Constitution' (Bumper Book of Government Waste, 2006 )

• €55,738 is available per MEP for 'published material, also known as propaganda, (which) must carry the European Parliament's logo' (Bumper Book of Government Waste, 2006 )

The €6m was set aside for promoting 'knowledge' of the Constitution, quite a different thing from 'promoting' the Constitution.

The information budget heading can hardly be called propaganda when it has been used to fund the website of an MEP who was elected on a platform calling for withdrawal from the EU and to pay for leaflets declaring "I hate the EU".
