2013 European Parliament Calendar Competition is launched

The European Parliament Information Office in Scotland has launched its annual calendar competition. This year the theme is 'Europe's rich animal kingdom'. Hopefully it will inspire primary school pupils to draw rare birds, animals and insects that exist in Europe.

Primary schools from Scotland and Northern Ireland are welcome to send their entries between 1 September and 9 October 2012 to the EP Office in Scotland.

The drawings will be judged by a panel of MEPs from Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as officials from the European Parliament Office in Scotland. The winner of the competition will feature in a calendar made up of drawings from all over Europe, and will also illustrate one month, along with eleven runners up, in the official Office in Scotland 2013 calendar. Additional runners up may also feature, space permitting.

The results will be announced at the end of October, and featured illustrations will be shown in an exhibition at the Office in Edinburgh in December alongside the calendar launch. There will also be a prize-giving, and a presentation to the winner. All schools entering the competition will receive a copy of the finished calendar.

On the left you can see a drawing from the 2012 calendar, which was based on the theme ´the European emergency number "112"´.
