Turkey visa liberalisation, Firearms trade and Energy price transparency - this week in the European Parliament

MEPs return to Brussels for committee meetings on Monday 18th April.

 .

Highlights

Turkey visa liberalisation. The European Commission report on Turkey’s progress towards meeting EU visa liberalisation requirements will be debated by the Civil Liberties Committee. Parliament would need to agree with the Council to exempt Turkish nationals from EU visa requirements. (Thursday)

Firearms trade. Draft amendments to the proposed reform of the EU firearms directive, to prevent weapons falling into the hands of terrorists and keep track of cross-border arms transfers, will be presented and debated for the first time in the Internal Market Committee. (Wednesday)

Energy price transparency. Ways to address the causes of energy poverty and measures to establish an energy market that does more to empower consumers, including new business models, fewer administrative barriers, price comparison tools and clearer bills, are set out in a resolution to be voted in the Industry and Energy Committee. This work will feed into upcoming legislative proposals for the future Energy Union. (Thursday)
