MEPs return to Brussels on 18 February for a full week of committee meetings.

 

Committee highlights:

Budget debate
European Parliament President Schulz and lead MEPs will debate the EU's long-term budget with European Council President Van Rompuy and Commission President Barroso. Parliament has the right to veto a deal reached by member state governments earlier this month. (Monday)

Debate with Draghi
Members of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will hold two separate debates with Mario Draghi in his capacities as ECB chief and chair of the European Systemic Risk Board. (Monday)

Emissions trading
Members of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on whether to delay auctioning a number of carbon credits to boost the low carbon price and green investments. (Tuesday)

Horsemeat
Members of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will debate the EU response to the discovery of horsemeat in products labelled as containing beef, with Commission and EU food safety agency (EFSA) representatives. (Monday)

Freezing criminal assets
Members of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will vote on draft legislation for member states to freeze or seize assets gained by criminal activities. (Wednesday)

MEP numbers
With Parliament set to have fewer seats after the 2014 elections, MEPs on the Committee on Constitutional Affairs will vote on proposals to establish the number of MEPs for each country. (Tuesday)

Media freedom
A draft resolution calling for the EU to monitor media freedom and support investigative journalism will be put to a vote in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. (Thursday)
