MEPs return to Brussels on 13 May for committee meetings and political group meetings in preparation for the Strasbourg plenary from 20-23 May.

 

Highlights:

Mali
Caretaker President Dioncounda Traoré will discuss the situation in Mali with MEPs from the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Sub-committee on Security and Defence. He will also meet and hold a joint press conference with EP President Martin Schulz. (Thursday)


MFF/2013 amending budgets
The Committee on Budgets will meet to take stock, inter alia, of the state of negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the amending budgets for 2013. (Thursday)


Debate with European Executive Directors of the World Bank
The Committee on Development will meet the European Executive Directors of the World Bank on 14.05.13. Issues that are expected to be raised include the Bank's coherence with the EU's approach to development policy, the review of the Bank's environment and social safeguards, its use of financial intermediaries, and policies linked to the private sector and to the fight against corruption.

The reform of EU Data Protection legislation: journalist seminar
The EP Press Service is holding a seminar for journalists on 14-15.05.13 on the data protection reform of the EU, aiming to provide an overview of the ongoing legislative process following the Commission's proposals to update existing legislation. Journalists will have the opportunity to discuss with Members of the European Parliament, Commission and Council representatives and stakeholders.


Plenary preparation
Parliament's political groups will prepare for the plenary session in Strasbourg. The agenda features votes on EU banking union legislation, offshore oil exploration and EP elections in 2014, as well as a debate with Commission and Council ahead of the upcoming EU summit.


Data protection
Parliament hosts a media seminar to explain the issues at stake in draft data protection proposals, with the participation of MEPs who are shaping the legislation. (Tuesday-Wednesday)


Workshop: Developments towards a Ubiquitous Digital Single Market
The EP Policy Department on Economic and Scientific Policy is holding a workshop on "New developments towards a 'Ubiquitous' Digital Single Market". The workshop will explore the type of new technological solutions that are currently being developed both for consumers and businesses and will also look at how governments across the world are responding to foster this development.
